…about Halloween and Thanksgiving!

In our area we do have a brief fall market – if you are considering a move but need to sell your home first there is no real need to wait for the spring to do so.

We have until the leaves fall off the trees – or right around Thanksgiving – to make the most of the fall market in Basking Ridge.

It’s the first day of fall, and in many places leaves are beginning to change colors and even to fall. That means cooler weather and fall home chores are coming your way. Autumn is a busy time when it comes to landscaping tasks and can be very important to maintaining curb appeal heading into winter. Once the ground freezes, it will be too late to do any of the outdoor jobs that you haven’t completed.

Here are some of the most important things you can do for your landscaping now that it’s fall:

  • Remove dead and dying plants to neaten your landscaping before winter. This includes getting rid of dead annuals, cutting back perennials and ornamental grasses, and pruning dead and dying branches.
  • Spread several inches of fresh mulch around shrubs and trees to protect roots from frost and help them retain moisture during a cold and dry winter.
  • Take steps to protect your landscaping from winter elements. Use overturned pots or buckets to hide small plants, wrap shrubs in burlap and surround vulnerable trees with shredded leaves.
  • Plant new trees and shrubs if needed. Not only is fall a good time to plant, you can also find deep discounts as nurseries try and sell their remaining stock before the ground freezes.
