Some recent positive signs for homebuyers and sellers:

  • Despite tight housing inventories and rising home prices, the homeownership rate rose slightly in the third quarter and reached the highest level since 2014, the U.S. Census Bureau reported.
  • Existing-home sales rose 0.7 percent in September after three straight monthly declines, according to the National Association of Realtors.
  • The U.S. Census Bureau and Department of Housing and Urban Development reported that sales of new single-family homes rose 18.9 percent in September.
  • Fannie Mae’s Home Purchase Sentiment Index matched an all-time high in September, as consumers showed optimism for buying and selling. The index now matches the record high that was set in June.
