What’s it like to live in Basking Ridge?

Last week I sent an email to all my clients and prospects (at least those who have given me permission to email – I’m aware of the e-spam rules!) asking them to answer two questions: Why did you choose to live where you live?  And, after being there for however many years, what do you love about where you live?  My goal is to gather enough information to build out my website with information – from homeowners – about each of the neighborhoods in and around our town.  The response, and the responses were terrific!!!  Lots of Starbucks cards will be mailed out this week!

This time of year makes people reflective, and the responses I got were wonderful!  If I had offered a prize for the most thoughtful answer, Jim Barna from True Leaf Kitchens in Basking Ridge would have won!!

What I love most about living and working in Basking Ridge is that we have a wonderful small town feel combined with modern conveniences, great restaurants and shopping.  While we are a large community with direct access to major highways and several train stations, the township has done a great job maintaining the small town feel in the downtown and surrounding areas.  I live two blocks from the center of town, where both my business and kids’ school are also located.  I can walk to work, or to Oak Street School to see the kids’ holiday shows.  On snow days, I’ll leave work and walk over to sleigh ride with my wife and two boys at St. James Church or the sledding hill at Oak Street.

When the tree is up at the center of town, as it is today, this place is like a Norman Rockwell painting.  Our family loves the annual holiday tradition of singing Christmas carols at the tree on Christmas Eve downtown.  The rich history of the town, and events like Charter Day and the Labor Day bike races, remind me of what life was like when I was a kid.  There is a real sense of community here.

Family-time and our kids’ education are high priorities.  It’s great to have some of the best schools in the state, amazing parks and trails, golf courses, and perhaps the best community pool I have ever seen.  We moved to Basking Ridge in 2007, a town I lived in as a child in the 70’s, and the small town charm I felt living here as a kid is still alive today.  I could not have picked a better place to call home, again.
