You have the keys, what’s next?

There’s nothing more exciting than entering your new house for the first time and seeing it empty with the great potential to turn it into your dream home. Before you get started, there are a few essential tasks that should be taken care of to ensure your safety and to get off to a nice, clean start.

When it comes to safety and security, your first priority should be a call to the locksmith to get the locks changed. You don’t know who else has keys to your home, so the only way to ensure you’re the only one with access is to change the locks. Additionally, take some time to familiarize yourself with your circuit breaker box and locate the main water valve. This will enable you to quickly respond to emergencies.

Before you start moving in your furniture and unpacking, be sure to thoroughly clean out kitchen and bathroom cabinets – both inside and out. You should also steam clean all of the carpets. This can be arranged with a professional carpet cleaning service, or you can rent a steam cleaner for a small fee and do it yourself.

Now, you’re ready to get started on making that new house a home!
