According to the latest quarterly report by the National Association of Realtors, median home prices continued to rise in the majority of metropolitan areas in the second quarter. In addition, the national median existing single-family home price was up 12.2 percent from the second quarter of 2012, the strongest year-over-year gain in seven-and-a-half years. Separately, a breakout of income requirements to buy a median-priced home on a metro area basis shows most buyers remain well positioned to afford a home in their area, even despite rising prices and higher mortgage interest rates.

- During the first six months of this year, home prices jumped 10 percent, the fastest pace in 36 years, CoreLogic reports.
- Realtor.com reported that 1.96 million homes were listed for sale in June – the highest number since last September and a sign the inventory shortage is easing.
- According to RealtyTrac, foreclosure activity was down 32 percent year-over-year in June
